PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, READ with your child DAILY!
Check out KidsA-Z.com
Library Day is on day 2 of our rotation this year! Please, after reading your child's library book to them, return it to their book bag. Your child MUST return the book to receive a NEW one! This can be upsetting for those who do not return their book!
Record ALL books you and your child read at home on their Reading List in the back of their folder.
Sight words for Kindergarten:
Sight words are one part of the promotion standards. There are 131 words on the K list. We will work on these words as we incorporate our NEW Treasures Reading Series. These words will be worked on weekly in our classroom. We will make games to play with these words for review with your child. We are also asking that you as a parent please work with your child on the words at home. The children need to know how to read and recognize the sight words.
Once your child has mastered the Kindergarten pre-primer and primer word list you may begin work on the First Grade word list.
The KINDERGARTEN Sight Words are located in your child's communication folder. They are also added each week to their HOMEWORK sheet.
Sight words are one part of the kindergarten learning targets. You will find the words your child must learn to read above. I believe it does no good to write words unless you can read them also. I have the words divided into lists by quarters. These are located in your child's communication folder in a protective sleeve. It is NOT enough for your child to simply memorize the words on a list. They must be able to apply these words to the text they are reading! Your child can also write or say sentences with the sight words. This helps them understand the meaning of the word (example: the difference between to, too, and two). You can find all 11 Dolch Word lists (and phrases too) at www.theschoolbell.com When you get to the website, click on Dolch Kit. You can find lots of good stuff here!
As your child progresses daily, they will be expected to reach new levels each quarter. As always, do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns. We value our time spent with each individual student, and are excited to call them our class!
